Molas, Joaquim, 1930-2015

Joaquim Molas i Batllori (Barcelona, 1930-2015). Writer, historian and university professor. A Doctor of Romantic Philology, he began his research into medieval literature but he later swayed towards contemporary literature. In 1969 he became a Full Professor of Catalan Language and Literature at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and, in 1982, at the University of Barcelona. He began writing the Diccionari de la literatura catalana (Dictionary of Catalan literature) and was head of the literature department of the Gran Enciclopèdia Catalana. A member of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (Institute of Catalan Studies), in 2003 he received the Medalla d'Or from the Generalitat of Catalonia, having already been awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Cross), the Premi Lletra d'Or and the Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes.
