Oller, Narcís, 1846-1930

Narcís Oller i Moragas (Valls, 1846 - Barcelona, 1930) was a lawyer and writer. He worked as a civil servant for Diputació de Barcelona (Barcelona Provincial Council) and later as a court prosecutor until close to his death. A conservative Catalan nationalist, Narcís Oller was a member of the most important literary circles in Barcelona and he often met with people from the magazine, La Renaixença. Following the literary trends that were dominating Europe at the time, he wrote in the Realist and Naturalist styles, influenced mainly by Émile Zola. However, in the end he adapted the Modernist style in his writing. His most notable works are La febre d’orLa bogeria and Pilar Prim.
