Victor Balaguer was one of the most important figures of the Catalan Renaixença, not only for actively promoting the return of the Floral Games, but also for fostering a mentality of Catalan collective consciousness. Author of Historia de Cataluña y de la Corona de Aragón (1860-63) and the play written under his pseudonym, Lo trobador de Montserrat (1861), symbols of Catalan tradition are always present in Victor Balaguer's work.
