3. Our Services

3.1. Our Services.

The services offered by the Biblioteca de Catalunya are the following:

Service 1 - Access to documents from digital repositories.

Service 2 - Delivery of documents to the reading rooms. 

Service 3 - Document lending.

Service 4 - Bibliographic information.

Service 5 - Document reproduction.

Service 6 - Cultural activities.

Service 7 - Educational services.

Service 8 - Guided tours.

Service 9 - Social media.

3.2.  Conditions of access and general requirements for the services in the Charter.

Most services of the Biblioteca de Catalunya are open to all citizens, except for two — delivery of documents to the reading rooms and document lending — which require a library card to access them (information on the procedures to request access).

3.3.  Applicable fees for the services in the Charter.

Most services we provide are free of charge. However, please note that certain procedures or services are subject to the payment of a fee or public charge.

3.4.  Common service delivery channels.

The services we offer are available through the following channels:

  • In person, at Carrer de l’Hospital, 56, 08001 Barcelona.
  • By phone, at (+34) 932 702 300.
  • Digital, by e-mail or through various forms on the Library’s website.
  • By post: Carrer de l´Hospital, 56, 08001 Barcelona.

3.5.  List of main services provided.

  1. Access to documents from digital repositories.
    • Description: Facilitates consultation of digital collections, making them accessible for use, retrieval and reuse through repositories.
    • Recipients: Citizens and Library users.
    • Activities carried out: Digitisation of documents and incorporation of these digitised versions into digital repositories such as ARCA  and MDC. Inclusion in European portals such as Europeana, via the Catalonica aggregator, is also enabled.
  2. Delivery of documents to the reading rooms.
    • Description: Provides access to the physical collection of the Library for on-site consultation.
    • Recipients: Library users.
    • Activities carried out: Delivery of documents from the Library’s various storage facilities to the reading rooms.
    • Conditions: A library card is required to use this service.
    • Requests can be submitted through this form.
  3. Document lending.
    Access to the service
    • Description: Lending of physical books to Library users, CSUC library users, and other libraries.
    • Recipients: Library users, other libraries and institutions.
    • Activities carried out: Management of loans of the Library’s documents and requests for documents from other institutions.
    • Conditions: Requires a library card or membership of another library. 
    • Some loan requests may involve a fee.
  4. Bibliographic information.
    • Description: General information about the collections of the Library, catalogues, and services, as well as specialised information on specific collections and the use of research tools.
    • Recipients: citizens and Library users. 
    • Activities carried out:  Responding to bibliographic information requests.
    • Virtual bibliographic information service can be accessed through this form.
  5. Document reproduction.
    • Description: Provides users with reproductions of documents from the Library and from other centres.
    • Recipients: Citizens, Library users, and other institutions.
    • Activities carried out: Supplying requested reproductions.
    • Reproductions can be requested through this form.
    • Fees for this service are regulated by Ordre CLT/436/2012, de 18 de desembre.
  6. Cultural activites.
    • Description: The Library organises and/or collaborates in a variety of activities designed to make heritage accessible to all age groups, respond to diverse social interests, enrich the collective imagination, and support research.
    • Recipients: Citizens and institutions.
    • Activities carried out: Open House Day, musical events, conferences, book and record launches, recitals, specialised seminars, congresses, round tables, receptions of collections, press conferences, exhibition openings, etc
    • Use of Library spaces for cultural activities is regulated by specific rules and can be requested through this form.
  7. Educational services.
    • Description: The Library carries out various activities to support learning and research for students of all ages, at the Carrer Hospital headquarters and at the Joan Maragall Archive.
    • Recipients: Primary, secondary, and high school students, vocational training students, and university students.
    • Activities carried out: Educational visits, document exhibitions, creation of teaching materials, internships, guidance for research projects (high school, undergraduate, and master’s theses). These activities are part of the BC_AULA and BC_ACADÈMIA initiatives. 
    • Prior registration is required via this form, by email or by phone (932 702 300).
  8. Guided tours.
    • Description: Tours include a general introduction to the institution and the building, a visit to the Reading Room and the Frederic Marès Book Museum, and may also include a session in the Cervantine Room. Tours are also offered at the Joan Maragall Archive.
    • Recipients: citizens.
    • Activities carried out: Explanation and guided visit. 
    • Prior registration is required via this form,  by e-mail or by phone (932 702 300).
    • Fees for this service are regulated by Ordre CLT/436/2012,  of 18 December.
  9. Social media.
    • Description: The Library promotes its collections, services and activities on social media.
    • Recipients: citizens.
    • Activities carried out: Posts on Facebook, X, Instagram, and Youtube, as well as articles on the Library's blog and pòdcast.
