Tasks and functions
It manages the assignment of the Deposit Legal number for bibliographic and audiovisual output in Catalonia. It collects and distributes the copies to the BC and other libraries for their preservation and consultation.
History
The Legal Deposit was transferred to the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1981. At that moment the offices of legal deposit of Catalonia sent the copies received at the Institut Català de Bibliografia, which catalogued to make the national bibliography, and then distributed to the preservation libraries. As a consequence of the law of 1993 the office was integrated into the Biblioteca de Catalunya.
